Privacy
Shotleaf has no account, no analytics and no ads. What it keeps stays on your Mac.
What stays on your Mac
- Clipboard history: the last 200 items you copied; pictures are kept for 30 days. You can change both, pin items, exclude apps, pause it or turn it off in Settings.
- Passwords that password managers mark as private are never saved. Text that looks like a card number or an access token is never saved to disk and is gone from the history after a minute.
- Snippets and their pictures.
- Recent screenshots: the last 10, so you can open them again. Clear them from the menu.
- Your writing style, if you turn it on: a few of your own finished texts, so completions sound like you. “Forget” in Settings deletes them.
All of it is in ~/Library/Application Support/Shotleaf. Text recognition and text completion run on your Mac.
When Shotleaf goes online
- Downloading the completion model from Hugging Face, once, when you ask for it.
- Temporary links to screenshots, only if you set up your own link server.
Nothing else: no usage statistics, no crash reports sent on their own.
Permissions
Screen Recording is for screenshots and text from the screen. Accessibility lets Shotleaf complete your text, expand snippets and paste from the history: it reads the field you type in, but doesn't read password fields.
